About Us.

We are a not-for-profit organization designed to empower Kenyan communities through the construction of emergency hospitals and facilitation of health care and preventative care services in the areas that need it the most.

In the recent past, there has been an upsurge in the incidence of accidents and other emergency care needs in Nyamira County and in Kenya as a whole. This can largely be attributed to the large number of motorbikes that are widely used as a convenient mode of transport. The major problem is that after an accident, the local people who are mostly poor, cannot afford specialized healthcare. The few that may be able to afford it have to travel long distances to get help. Even then, the specialized facilities are very few and ill equipped to handle these cases. This strains the entire healthcare system thus compromising quality of care. The fate of most seriously ill patients in Kenya is long suffering and eventually succumbing to their illnesses. CONF is seeking partnerships to help bring care to these people who are already facing so many other hardships in life. Keeping them healthy will assist them in remain productive and take care of their families. When there are more resources, we will also incorporate treatment of other healthcare needs in the community such as dental care, diabetes, vascular diseases and others.

Our mission is to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services to all. We recognize that healthcare is a fundamental human right.

Build

Our goal is to ensure that all Kenyans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, regardless of their location or economic status. By investing in healthcare infrastructure, we can improve the health outcomes of communities, reduce healthcare disparities, and ultimately, save lives. Kenya faces significant healthcare challenges, including a shortage of healthcare facilities and healthcare workers, limited access to essential medicines, and high rates of preventable diseases. By building hospitals and healthcare facilities, we hope to improve access to healthcare services and address these challenges.

Support

Our mission to support the staffing and management of hospitals and healthcare facilities in Kenya aims to ensure that these facilities operate effectively and efficiently. Staffing and management are critical components of healthcare service delivery, and inadequate staffing and management can lead to poor health outcomes and low patient satisfaction. We recognize that there is a shortage of healthcare workers in Kenya and that healthcare facilities often lack the resources and expertise necessary to manage effectively. By providing support for staffing and management, we hope to address these challenges and improve healthcare service delivery in Kenya.

Educate

Kenya faces significant healthcare challenges, including limited access to healthcare services, low health literacy, and high rates of preventable diseases such as diabetes. By supporting community outreach and education programs, we hope to address these challenges and improve health outcomes in Kenya. We will work closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and educators to design and implement these programs, and to ensure that they are culturally sensitive and appropriate. By empowering individuals and communities with knowledge and skills, we can promote healthy living and prevent and manage disease, leading to better health outcomes for all Kenyans.

Background

Stats

According to Emerg Med J. 2007 Sep; 24(9): 665–668, increased journey distance to a hospital appears to be associated with increased risk of mortality. Our data suggest that a 10‐km (6.2 miles) increase in straight‐line distance is associated with around a 1% absolute increase in mortality.

Location

Our first site will be located in Nyaramba next to the town of Nyamira, Kenya just miles from Lake Victoria, Africa's largest body of water.

About

Charles Onyari Nyakweba Foundation (CONF) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2012. This nonprofit organization is legally registered in both Kenya and the United States of America. The foundation is named after the late Charles Onyari Nyakweba, a pharmacist in Kenya who was very actively involved in bettering his community through education and healthcare. He donated his ancestral land in Nyaramba market, Nyamira county in Kenya, so that it could be used for a project that would benefit the community. His brothers were so inspired by this act, that they also donated their land for this cause. It is on this land that we intend to build the first of CONF hospitals that will mainly specialize on emergency medicine. The need for emergency care in this region is well documented.
